Sheffield schoolchildren were treated to a brand new seating area in their outdoor learning space this month, when colleagues from VINCI Building’s Sheffield Forgemasters project team donated their time and bench-building skills for a Stand Out Make a Difference (SOMAD) day.
Jake Askew, Senior Construction Manager, Tom Coleman, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Dale Downing, Construction Manager, Kane Haslam, Design Manager, Liam Swords, Senior Planner and Isabel Udall-James, Trainee Engineer, spent the day at Brightside Nursery Infant School, near to Forgemasters, building benches and making improvements to the Forest School space, where the children learn about the natural world and take part in outdoor activities like working with tools, den-building, and bug-hunting.
The work on the new, improved area, involved preparing the ground, excavating for the bench posts, building twelve 1.2m long benches, and dressing the area with woodchip bark to complement the woodland setting.
All materials were kindly donated by supply chain partner G&O Fencing.
