Walk In Centre, Milton Keynes

This award-winning, multi-functional Walk-in Centre provides Milton Keynes Primary Care NHS Trust with a nurse-led advice and treatment service for patients with minor ailments and injuries.

As well as a suite of 10 consulting/treatment rooms and a pharmacy, the two-storey centre incorporates two surgeries for out-of-hours dental treatment.

Reflecting the Trust’s desire for a ‘non-institutional’ building, the centre is designed to be warm and welcoming, using natural materials and light to good effect. The inclusion of high levels of thermal insulation and highly efficient plant and systems help minimise energy consumption.

Initial Trust reservations on the use of the ProCure 21 method were quickly dispelled thanks to IHP’s honest and open approach which ensured the process was clearly explained and the implication of decisions fully understood. This resulted in a sense of mutual trust, shared purpose and unity across the project team.

Winner of a Building Better Healthcare award for its ‘outstanding contribution to the healthcare environment’, feedback from the many patients who use the centre has been glowing.
